Acupuncture treatment involves the use of needles, which are inserted into specific sites along the meridians of the body to help correct or rebalance the flow of energy, consequently relieving pain and/or restoring health. Contemporary medical acupuncture is complementary to modern medical practice, rather than an alternative form of treatment. Acupuncture is integrated into conventional medical practice as a therapeutic modality used to encourage natural healing, reduce and/or relieve pain, and to improve function of affected areas of the body.

Contemporary medical acupuncture consists of stimulation of the peripheral nervous system with acupuncture needles for the therapeutic purpose of treating musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction. Acupuncture treatment involves the insertion of very fine needles through the skin and tissues at varying depths on specific points on the body, specifically penetrating the underlying structures such as muscles, nerves, ligaments, etc. The insertion of needles stimulates the body to produce endorphins, natural pain relieving chemicals in the body; there is no injection of any substance into the body.

A Doctor of Chiropractic will assess, diagnosis and provide treatment. Each individual receives a treatment plan that is tailored to his or her unique needs. X-rays may be required and can be prescribed by the Chiropractor directly. Chiropractors deliver treatment most commonly through an adjustment. An adjustment is a highly skilled and precise movement or thrust applied by hand or instrument to a joint of the body. The adjustment loosens the joint to restore proper movement and optimize function. Adjustments can be carried out using an instrument, a drop piece or by hand. The technique used can vary based on patient and doctor preference.

Chiropractors provide care for patients of all ages with a range of acute and chronic conditions. As well as advice about self help, exercise, diet and lifestyle. Chiropractors often provide support for pain management, sports injuries and active rehabilitation.

Lauren Sutton is a Registered Massage Therapist and Certified Lymphatic Practitioner. She is currently an active member of the College of Massage Therapy of Ontario and the Registered Massage Therapist Association of Ontario.

Lauren enjoys working within a multidisciplinary clinic setting and through her career has treated a wide variety of complaints. She enjoys working with both chronic and acute issues, allowing her clients to achieve and maintain a place of balance. Through extensive post-graduate training, Lauren has gained insight into the importance of subtle touch and what can be learned from the body. Her techniques are wide and varied, ranging from aggressive myofascial stretching and trigger point releases, to moderate Swedish massage, to subtle joint articulation techniques, Lymphatic Drainage, Visceral Manipulation and Craniosacral Therapy. Her knowledge, intuition and skill are felt through her hands as tissues relax, release and retrain themselves to greater function and less pain.

Lauren’s passion lay in Lymphatic Drainage Therapy which is a gentle rhythmic pumping action which help push fluid and blockages through the lymphatic vessels back to nodes and organs to be filtered and removed from the body properly. LDT is great for acute or chronic inflammation, detoxification and general health. Lymphedema is when a compromised lymphatic system is overwhelmed and cannot keep up with the amount of fluid trapped in the tissue, usually a complication after cancer treatment.
